Dreamy Antique Celestial French Brooch with old cut Diamonds.
The brooch features 31 diamonds, the majority of which are rose cut, and one old mine cut.
The design consists of a flower and foliage intertwined on a moon crescent.
The brooch dates from the Napoléon III era and therefore predates the Art Nouveau movement, however, its style may be seen as a precursor to Art Nouveau naturalism.
Details:
The brooch originally wasn't stamped, and has been stamped in modern days as it is a legal obligation in France to be able to sell Antique gold pieces. It is therefore stamped on the fastening pin with the Owl mark for pieces of unknown origin in 18k solid gold.
The brooch is made of both 18k solid gold and silver. Silver is used on top to set the diamonds, as it was common practice in the 19th century.
Condition:
The pin is in very good antique condition, opens and closes securely.
Measurements:
Brooch diameter: 32mm / 1 1/4"
Brooch weight: 6.0g
